Norton is here! The state grape of Missouri and arguably the premier dry red varietal of the Midwest is now nestled on our shelves ready for your enjoyment!
Norton grows very well in Missouri and is considerably more disease resistant than most other grapes we grow here at Dale Hollow. Our Norton vines grow in two sections of the East Vineyard (the one in the distance from the winery) and despite being only 3 years old are already putting on delicious grapes!
You will notice how dark the berries are- a quality that shows well in the wine making for a dark, ruby red appearance in the glass. It’s a fraction of the size of most other grapes we grow: At roughly 1/3 of the behemoth Concord, you can imagine how many more grapes it takes to make a bottle of wine! But it’s worth it.
The 2016 growing season was quite conducive to quality Norton grapes and it shows in the wine- it has soft tannins and demonstrates more fruit than pepper.
Come join us for a tasting and see for yourself that delicious dry red wine exists outside of the famed CaliEurope areas!
